I loved those Marlins from day one!  Get the right color scheme and they were sharp!

Like the 1971-74 AMX which was badged "Javelin", the 1977 was badged "Hornet". 1968-70 and 1978-80 were a stand alone model (although the later cars were obviously Concord then Spirit based).

I wanted to add to this, the '75 and '76 VAM Rambler AMX sold in Mexico was based on the Matador Aero Coupe, but was also called simply AMX.  The base car platform was still called the Rambler Classic, though, not the AMC Matador.  Seems curious, that the Matador name wasn't taken advantage of in Mexico...

I read years ago that Matador roughly translates to "killer" which really isn't a positive name for a car.

I just found this video of Old Cars Weekly talking about Marlin-Bob's car.   Cool  At least I think it's your car...

I don't know if this information would be considered helpful or not, since I don't have the VIN number handy [I remember it started as "A7C037H...", but all the 304 Hornet hatchbacks with floor shifted automatics began that way].  But on Friday night, January 7, 1977 I completed the deal, and on Saturday January 8, 1977 I took delivery on the first 1977 Hornet AMX sold by Wolfe Motor Sales in Corydon, IN.  The car was painted 6P Firecracker Red, had a black interior, and lacked the hood and deck lid "flaming bee" decals.  It had the 304 V8 and automatic, air conditioning, AM radio, and was NOT equipped with the spare tire compartment...so the tire sat in the hatch area with a gowdawful carpet-and-cardboard cover, making the cargo area essentially useless.  Tires were Goodyear Polyglass RWL [raised white letter] mounted on the polycast wheels.  Sticker price, including destination charges, was $5,844 and some change.

I traded in a 1970 Javelin SST, 360 2-barrel with column shift automatic. in a green metallic.

If you ever run across the complete VIN I'd like to add your car to the registry.

I did not realize they sold for that much!  I know all too well about the carpet and cardboard covered tire issue -- that is what the SX/4 has.
