Similar to the Dealer Specials this is the place for regional special editions built for a certain area or regional promotion.

Here is the 1969 Raider, a run of 300 Rebels painted in the Big Bad colors especially for the New York, New Jersey AMC dealers.

I had not heard of that one.  Something only a smaller car maker could really do.

Oh, boy.  I can't even express how much I love this poster.  And the car idea.  Everything is soooo good.  This thing is a pre-Machine.  One of my holy grails here, I've been looking for one or the other for years now.

It would be neat to know if any of the 300 Raiders have survived. I can't recall ever seeing one in person or on eBay. There was a BBG/black vinyl top 1970 Rebel listed recently but it was a 6 cylinder. It had me wondering if the Raider was continued for 1970?

Such an atypical AMC ad.  Would be worth having the ad itself.

Beautiful Ad.  You would have thought AC would have been added as I am assuming this model was marketed in the warmer climes?  But then all Pacers really needed to have AC.

LA isn't as hot as the rest of the desert, with the ocean winds.  Their days at 100 and over are significantly less than the deserts in Arizona or Nevada, or New Mexico or Texas, either.  It's outside of town that it gets really hot.  Right there in that valley, it stays pretty warm in winter and relatively cool in summer, compared to the extremes of the deserts around it.

Shocked  Could you imagine trying to locate a pair of these decals:

I still haven't found any info on the Gremlin Sundowner. I believe they pretty much ruined one (and a Pacer) on one of those stupid car builder TV shows though. It later showed up on eBay.

Here are a couple of Dealer Ad Templates from 1977, provided to the dealers to assist in Sundowner promotions.  These were on e-Bay about a year ago...

This is a promotional photo of a 1977 Gremlin Sundowner:

Back in December '06, Keleigh Hardy wrote in to the AMC-List, saying he had just photographed a Gremlin Sundowner on Fire Island, in California.  I asked him for copies of those pics, to feature on Route 66 Rambler's Gremlin page, and he was kind enough to send me a couple...   Cool

It really looks to me like it's a driver.  Even without the grille, some care has been taken to mount signal lights in the same approximate location as the originals.  Also, both license plates are straight and clean.  And the tires appear to be properly inflated, and all the glass and lights are serviceable and clean. I don't remember what Keleigh's opinion on the car was, at the time, but I bet you could dig it up on the AMC-List archives.

Dan Strohl's blog over at Hemmings Motor News has given a mention to The AMC Heritage Forum, and AMX's Rebel Raider poster, in a note about strange car colors from the 60's/70's...  TAMCHF marches on.  Cool

Here's a link to TheAMCForum.com and an original announcement posted by Tom Benvie regarding the 1972 Hornet Yellow Jacket special edition.

I'd like to see one of these... the hatchback wasn't out yet, so this would have looked a lot like an SC/360,  or a Hornet Rallye, with the stripe.  I wonder if there was a decal.  It doesn't seem to mention one in the letter.

My dad purchased a leftover 75 Hornet hatchback in 76 from Poirier AMC in Fall River, MA & it had (allegedly) some type of regional package..it was a black Hornet X, but also had the D/L package (NOT available on a 75 hatchback according to the 75 brochure) and a 1/2 vinyl roof.  304 auto on floor.According to the salesman, only certain dealers that had reached a sales goal recieved one of these "special editions"  I've never seen another one, & talked to a fellow member of our local AMC club who worked for the Boston Zone, & he remembered some type of package, but couldn't recall the details of it....any ideas?Huh

T5, any pics of your dad's Hornet? I'd like to see how that half vinyl top was done, at first I thought maybe with a targa band but those didn't come out until 1977. A Hornet X with D/L package, that is strange. I had a black '75 Hornet X myself around 1982 but nothing unusual on that one (except for the Pepe LePew I painted on the hatch since everyone called it the skunk).
